International Audience / Information in English

The University Association for the Qualification of Early-Career Researchers in Germany (UniWinD) is an association currently comprising 88 member institutions and is committed to improving the training conditions for early-career researchers through cross-institutional exchange. UniWinD was founded in 2009.

“The purpose of the UniWinD association is to promote science, research and education in the field of early-career researchers (…). UniWinD sees itself as a network of universities/institutions with facilities for the training of researchers in the early stages of their careers.“ (section 2(1) of the UniWinD Statutes)

Our members are universities and graduate institutions from all over Germany (one member from Austria).

Organisation

UniWinD’s strategic direction and activities are agreed upon by the General Assembly and the Executive Board. The Executive Board is advised by a twelve-member Advisory Board. This Advisory Board comprises representatives from various status groups and relevant institutions within the German academic system.

Good conditions for academic careers in Germany through cross-university exchange

UniWinD is the only national organisation in Germany dedicated exclusively to topics relating to the support and development of doctoral candidates and postdocs. Our aim is to continuously improve the framework conditions for early-career researchers. Their research findings and their potential are of considerable value to society – both in academic and non-academic contexts. Our approach is based on exchange between our member institutions.

Main target group of UniWinD are German-speaking countries. UniWinD is also interested in internationalisation and international exchange. On the one hand, we can learn from experiences in other academic systems. On the other hand, UniWinD also wants to improve the conditions for international doctoral candidates and postdocs in Germany and supports international research colleboration.

Though most of our content is in German, UniWinD sometimes offers events in English and some of our publications are available in English. We compiled them on this page.

Events & publications

Through a variety of formats and events, we promote networking, the exchange of experiences and best practices as well as the development of common quality standards. Target group of our events are mainly scientific managers but also university leaders and doctoral candidate/postdoc representatives. You find current events in English below.

The expert knowledge of our member institutions is pooled by UniWinD and made available to the public in form of our publication series and other (online) ressources. Some publications are available in English, see below.
